Which schedule has less potential for abuse than Schedules I and II?

Schedule III drugs are classified as having a moderate potential for abuse, which is less than that of Schedule I and Schedule II substances. Schedule I drugs are considered to have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use, such as heroin or LSD. Schedule II substances, while having medical uses, still have a high potential for abuse, as seen with opioids and stimulants.

In contrast, Schedule III substances include medications that have accepted medical uses and a lower risk for dependence and abuse, such as certain anabolic steroids, ketamine, and some combination products that contain less potent opioids. This classification acknowledges that while Schedule III drugs can still be misused, the risk is lower than that associated with Schedules I and II drugs.
